PURPOSE: Provided is a pharmaceutical composition for the prevention and treatment of brain stroke. In particular, it contains hemoglobin bound with polyethyleneglycol as an active ingredient, and supplies oxygen effectively. Therefore, it has prevention and treatment effects on brain stroke. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for the prevention and treatment of brain stroke is characterized by containing, as an active ingredient, hemoglobin bound with polyethyleneglycol, particularly methoxypolyethylene glycol-succinimidyl propionate having a molecular weight of 1000-100000. Its dose is 96-1920mg/kg(1-20mL/kg) and it is intravenously administered.
