PURPOSE: A method for remotely monitoring of a video telephone is provided to monitor the inside of a house by calling while a user is out. CONSTITUTION: If a user calls, it is judged whether a video phone is set up in an automatic response mode(S1-S2). If so, an announcement message is transmitted to the user(S3). If the user leaves a voice message according to the announcement message, the video phone records the message of the user(S4,S5). If the video phone starts to record the voice message, a monitoring mode is initialized(S6). If the user inputs a password while the voice message is being recorded, the password input by the user is compared with a password preliminarily set(S8). If the passwords match, the video phone enters the monitoring mode to transmit a peripheral image to the user(S16). If the user stops recording the voice message, the recording contents are stored(S9). If the recording is stopped, video transmission to the user is stopped and the call is terminated(S10).
