The distance in the horizontal direction between the support surfaces (12, 14) for the stand support arm (8) and the stand (7) is less than the distance between these surfaces in the vertical direction. The safety device (1) comprises stands which extend in an essentially vertical direction once the device has been installed and are connected to a rail (6). The free bottom ends of the stands are provided with a support surface. The stands are connected to an arm extending downwards which has a support surface at its free end.
