The thin film has its edge cut a zigzag line, with the teeth of the zigzag pattern being formed from equilateral. Further definition is achieved by making additional 20 mm window slots (3) cut into the film. The shaping of the film edge, and the provision of slots, enable the film to be kept flat, for use in coating items. The processing technique for keeping a thin film flat includes a first stage of defining on the film segments (2,3) along the edge of the film. The segments are defined by cutting the edge of the film in a zigzag line, with the teeth of the zigzag pattern being formed from equilateral triangles having an edge measurement of between 5 and 15 mm, preferably 10 mm. Further definition is achieved by making additional window slots (3) cut into the film, these segments having a length of 20 mm. These slots form two parallel lines, each slot being spaced from the next in its line by distance equal to its own length. The two sets of slots thus alternate.
