1,177,070. Electric furnace hearths. ELEMELT Ltd. 11 Aug., 1967 [18 June, 1966], No. 36955/67. Divided out of 1,177,069. Heading F4B. [Also in Division H5] In a furnace for heating molten glass of the kind comprising a furnace chamber having a bottom wall 11 and an upstanding peripheral wall, spaced apart electrodes (18A), 18B, (18C), 18D for passing current through the glass and an alternating current supply circuit, the electrodes extend upwardly through the bottom wall 11 which in the locality of the electrodes has an upwardly presented surface raised relatively to that underlying the main body of glass heated by current passing between the electrodes. It is stated that the current follows the paths 30a, 30b, 30c and 30d and the bottom wall 11 is profiled to match the bottom current path 30d to reduce overheating and erosion of the bottom wall. Opening 14 leads to duct 15 for drawing off the glass similar to that described in Specification 835,201.
