PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance reliability in recording/initialization without adding parts newly. SOLUTION: A tilt sensor generates a tilt error signal based on difference of an electric current between PD41a and PD41b which are photo detectors divided into two. In the tilt sensor, offset voltage is set by adding a value to correct an initial correction value which corrects the inclination between the tilt sensor and an objective lens at assembly of the optical pickup by a tilt sensing error according to the difference of the incident light amount of PD41a or PD41b generated by forming a light spot from a tilt sensor to a boundary of a recorded area and a non-recorded area in an optical disk. The offset voltage is impressed, and consequently an output current of PD41a or PD41b is corrected, a tilt error signal is outputted and tilt correction is performed based on this tilt error signal.
