PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify and compact a structure by eliminating the problem of a difficulty in size of an apparatus due to necessity of an optical element, such as, a lens, etc., in a conventional parallel beam type particulate density measuring apparatus. SOLUTION: This measuring apparatus includes a tubular cylinder having a non-directional diffusion reflector, such as, a magnesium fluoride, etc. coating on an inner wall of the cylinder, a light emitting element, such as, a blue diode, etc., provided at one end of the cylinder, a photodetector, such as, a photodiode, etc., disposed at the other end of the cylinder, and a gas to be measured, such as, an exhaust gas, etc., introduced into the cylinder.
