PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adhesive having strong adhesive force without releasing harmful substances such as formaldehyde. SOLUTION: First, polyvinyl alcohol whose hydroxy groups are partly substituted with acylacetoxy groups and a diamine-based crosslinking agent are prepared each in a state of an aqueous solution. On the other hand, a member A and a member B each consisting of a wood, paper or cloth are prepared. Then, applying the substituted polyvinyl alcohol aqueous solution on the surface to be stuck of the member A, and the crosslinking agent aqueous solution on the surface to be stuck of the member B, respectively, and both surfaces to be stuck are stuck together. After a prescribed time of curing, hardening takes place and the member A and the member B are stuck together. At this time, a crosslinked polyvinyl alcohol is considered to be produced by a reaction illustrated in the scheme. The adhesive of this invention has excellent performances with high water resistance and heat resistance. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
