PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wireless communication system which allows two wireless communication apparatuses that want to initiate communication mutually to select an available channel from two or more channels. SOLUTION: A transponder first acknowledges receipt of a response packet from an interrogator for a period Ta upon switching of operating frequency channel, and if the response packet is not received for that period, it transmits an wake packet. On the other hand, the interrogator acknowledges receipt of the wake packet from the transponder for a period Tc upon switching of operating frequency channel. And if acknowledged, it transmits the response packet. And when both the interrogator and the transponder receive the wake packet and the response packet, the operating frequency channel is occupied to make a communication. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
