PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an actuator having a compact structure, and effectively shutting off a power transmission from a driven member to an electric motor while ensuring transmission efficiency from the electric motor to the driven member. SOLUTION: Since a lead angle of a screw groove 3b of a screw shaft 3 exceeds 0 degree but is not more than 4 degrees, the power transmission from a cylindrical member 8 to the electric motor 1 can be effectively shut off. Despite this, there is no need to make an output shaft 1a of the electric motor 1 and an axial line of the screw shaft 3 intersect to each other unlike a case of using mechanism comprised of a worm and worm wheel. Accordingly, the compact structure is realized. On the other hand, a cost is considerably reduced compared with a case of using a solenoid brake. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
