PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress occurrence of troubles due to a deformation in the shape of a meniscus between adjacent ejection electrodes and a variation in the flow rate of a coloring agent in a head. SOLUTION: In a recovery mode, a positive pulse voltage is fed to ejection electrodes 20 in group X and a pulse voltage having a phase shift of one half period from the pulse voltage being fed to ejection electrodes 20 in group X is fed to ejection electrodes 20 in group Y. Pigment particles 2a contained in the ink repeat migration in the direction approaching the ejection electrodes 20 in group Y and migration in the direction approaching the ejection electrodes 20 in group X repeatedly between the ejection electrodes of both groups. The pulse voltages are prevented from being fed continuously to the ejection electrodes 20 in group X and group Y over a preset longest applying time. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
