<p>A perpendicular magnetic recording medium (16) includes a hard magnetic recording layer (42), a soft magnetic layer (40) and a non-magnetic intermediate layer (50) between the hard magnetic recording layer (42) and the soft magnetic layer (40). The non-magnetic intermediate layer (50) comprises a seedlayer (52) formed adjacent the soft magnetic layer (40) and an underlayer (54) formed between the seedlayer (52) and hard magnetic recording layer (42). The underlayer (54) comprises Ru or CrRu. The seedlayer (52) comprises CoCrRu, CoCr, W, Ta, Mo, Hf, or Ti. The non-magnetic intermediate layer (50) provides a means for inducing a substantially (00.2) orientation in the hard magnetic recording layer (42).</p> |
