The invention relates to a signaling method for a network system. In this solution, a common analog read signal is fed via a signaling channel to all nodal units (104-106) under control of a control unit (100). The read signal is modified by modification means (200-202) at each nodal unit (104-106) for identification of the nodal unit (104-106) and data indicating the state of each nodal unit (104-106) is added to the read signal. In the control unit (100), the state of each nodal unit (104-106) is determined by means of the modification made and the read signal.
