A method for switching between subscriber terminals (5) in a communications network (1), in which the switching devices (2-4) have call distribution system (CDSs) and detect information on the capacity states of the CDSs (7-9) and exchange information between all switching devices, such that each CDS (7-9) is informed about the capacity of the respective other CDSs (7-9). Further, in the event of a switching enquiry inputted into one of the switching devices (2-4), in dependent of the switching device, in which the switching enquire was received, available information is selected concerning the capacity status of the complete CDS systems of one of the CDS systems is selected for further processing of the switching enquiry. An Independent claim is included for a communication network for switching between subscriber terminals.
