A switching system (20) has several computers (30,40) connected via a computer network, and each of the computers has a timer with a free-running clock. One of the computers (40) has a reference timer and is designed such that in a first step, an absolute time statement at at least one additional computer (30) is sent via the computer network and in a second step, an interrupt signal is sent via the computer network to the additional computer (30), and the additional computer (30) is designed such that directly on receiving the interrupt signal to start, by means of its processor, a sequence for synchronizing its timer to the previously sent absolute time.
