<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active matrix type liquid crystal display in which each pixel electrode is formed as overlapped with each part of a gate line and a source line in the surrounding area through an insulating layer and in which 1H (horizontal) line driving is carried out by controlling the polarity of pixel electrodes on one gate line to be equal and alternately inversing the polarity of pixel electrodes on one source line by each one gate line, the liquid crystal display featuring that: production of a reverse tilt domain due to a strong transverse electric field between pixel electrodes having opposite polarities adjacent to each other in the source line direction is suppressed; and therefore, leaking of light in the domain boundary is avoided, which contributes to improvement in the contrast without inducing decrease in the productivity due to the use of a perpendicular alignment liquid crystal material. <P>SOLUTION: A homogeneous liquid crystal material is used for the liquid crystal layer. Rubbing treatment for each of aligment film of a TFT substrate 100 and a counter substrate 200 is carried out in the directions parallel to the gate lines making 180° angle with each other. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
