PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toner which exhibits low hygroscopicity and good electrification characteristics, does not give rise to problems of odor and has excellent productivity, and a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the toner includes a step of dispersing a liquid composition consisting of at least a polyester-based binder resin or a monomer capable of forming the binder resin into a non-aqueous solvent in the presence of a non-aqueous dispersant. The non-aqueous dispersant has a solute affinity part having affinity to a binder resin component and a solvent affinity part having affinity to the non-aqueous solvent. The toner contains at least a polyester resin, and the non-aqueous dispersant having a polyester chain and 4 to 40C hydrocarbon groups. As a result, the toner which has the low hygroscopicity and the good electrification characteristics and does not give rise to the problems of odor can be manufactured with the good productivity.
