PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oscillation type liquid level detector for highly accurately detecting the location of a liquid level at all times even when the temperature of a liquid and pressure change and to provide a liquid level detecting apparatus using the same. SOLUTION: A diaphragm 31 of a fuel level sensor 3 is provided with two oscillation propagation paths or a measuring path 31a and a reference path 31b of which the directions of oscillation propagation of main oscillations intersect each other approximately at right angles. The fuel level sensor 3 is mounted to a fuel tank 2 in such a way that the direction of oscillation propagation of the reference path 31b is in parallel with a liquid level 41, and that the direction of oscillation propagation of the measuring path 31a is vertical to the liquid level 41. In other words, the reference path 31b is immersed in a fuel 4 at all times. By this, by computing the location of the liquid level 41 on the basis of both the propagation time Ta of oscillations via the measuring path 31a and the propagation time Tb of oscillations via the reference path 31b, it is possible to highly accurately detect the location of the liquid level 41 in the fuel tank 2 at all times even when the temperature of the fuel 4 and pressure change.
