PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophotographic image forming apparatus capable of preventing the occurrence of failure such as the faulty cleaning of a photoreceptor drum even in the case of using transfer material whose surface smoothness is low. SOLUTION: In the electrophotographic image forming apparatus, a toner image formed on the photoreceptor drum 1 is transferred to a rotating intermediate transfer belt 91, the toner image transferred to the belt 91 is transferred to the transfer material so as to form an image, and further the toner remaining on the belt 91 after transferring the toner image is transited to the drum 1 and recovered and removed. The apparatus is provided with a toner electrifying roller 23 for electrifying the toner remaining on the belt 91 after transferring the toner image, and a backup roller 12 opposed to the roller 23 through the belt 91. The total electrostatic capacitance of the belt 91 and the rollers 23 and 12 is≥50<SB>P</SB>F and≤500<SB>P</SB>F. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
