A broadcast system capable of automatically recording only contents satisfying needs of a user, thereby effectively saving the capacity of the storage means. Firstly, a transmission device transmits content data together with classification identification information indicating the contents of data portions constituting the content data as a program and each having a different content. A recording device side detects coincidence between the classification identification information received and the classification identification information specified, so that only the data portions corresponding to the classification identification information whose coincidence is detected are recorded in the storage means among the content data received. Alternatively, operation is performed so that necessary data can be set as key information. Among the content data received, the data portion which coincides with the set key information is detected. Thus, among the content data received, the data portion which coincides with the key information is detected, so that only the necessary data portion of this data portion and after is recorded in the storage means.
