Transmission power control in a CDMA mobile communication system. The uplink transmission power of a mobile station is so controlled as to achieve a target SIR, and the target SIR is controlled on the basis of the quality over the transmission line. When the same data is simultaneously transmitted/received between one mobile station and base stations, the qualities over the transmission lines are monitored. The data received through a transmission line of the highest quality is selected. The selection rate of data sent through each transmission line is calculated. The target SIR is updated according to the data quality after data selection. The updated target SIR is multiplied by the selection rate of each transmission line, and the product is used as an actual target SIR of each transmission line.
