The method involves switching the machine into a first mode with reduced power output when switching on and then after the expiry of a fixed period of time the machine is switched into a second mode with increased power output. The fixed period of time can be between 2 ands 20 seconds. The first mode involves reduced speed, reduced hammer frequency and/or reduced impact energy.
