USE OF CYCLIC DEPSIPEPTIDE AS A CHEMOTHERAPEUTIC AGENT AGAINST CANCER

The invention relates to the use of cyclic depsipeptide as a chemotherapeutic agent against cancer. Serratamolide, which is also known as cyclo [(3R)-3-hydroxydecanol-L-seryl-(3R)-3-hydroxydecanol-L-serylo], is a cyclic depsipeptide which is isolated from Serratia marcescens bacterial cultures. Serratamolide reduces the viability of different cancerous cells (leukemias, myelomas, carcinomas, etc.) and induces apoptosis in said cells, producing virtually no effect on non-cancerous cells. As a result, serratamolide and the pharmaceutically-acceptable solvates and/or addition salts thereof can be used as an anticancer chemotherapeutic agent, particularly against leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, carcinoma, melanoma and sarcoma.
