<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical active device controlled by changing characteristics or functions actively, in the two-dimensional slab photonic crystalline optical device. <P>SOLUTION: The optical active device is constituted of the two-dimensional slab photonic crystalline structure. In the device, a slab layer 4 formed by laminating an active layer 1 on a clad layer 2 and having a two-dimensional extent is provided with a periodic refractive index distributing structure in a two-dimensional surface. In such an optical active device, the slab layer 4 is provided with a waveguide formed by introducing a first linear defect region 6 into the periodic refraction index distributing structure. According to this constitution, light generated in the active layer 1 is resonated in the waveguide and laser oscillation is generated. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
