PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device of an intermediate transfer type which imparts a long life to an intermediate transfer body and prevents the occurrence of the irregularities of image density due to the electrification before the secondary transfer of a developer image from the intermediate transfer body to transfer material. SOLUTION: The image forming device is provided with a secondary pre-transfer electrifying means 14 which electrifies an developer image before the secondary transfer carried on the surface of the intermediate transfer body 8 into the same polarity with the developer image and a secondary pre-transfer electrifying means opposing member 11 which is disposed on the position opposite to the secondary pre-transfer electrifying means 14 and is brought into contact with the back face of the intermediate transfer body 8. The outermost layer of the contact surface with at least the intermediate transfer body 8 of the secondary pre-transfer electrifying means opposing member 11 is formed with an elastomer. Young modulus E[N/m2] of material of the outermost layer of the intermediate transfer body 8 and the thickness t[m] of the outermost layer satisfy the following relation; 2×104[N/m]≤E×t[N/m]≤6×105[N/m] (relation 9). The electrification bias applied by the secondary pre-transfer electrifying means 14 is a bias made by superimposing an AC component to a DC component. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
