PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for measuring the profile of a workpiece and a profile measuring system, which can be easily mounted and dismounted, can be set such that its coordinate axis Z is aligned with the main spindle of an NC machine tool, can be simply handled, can avoid its interference with other objects, and has the properties of simple structure, high accuracy, and high reliability. SOLUTION: The body of the apparatus 200 for measuring the profile of the workpiece is dismountably engaged with the axis of the main spindle 01, which has an X and Y direction position detecting device 100, of the NC machine tool. The apparatus 200 for measuring the profile of the workpiece is composed of an X and Y direction positioning and adjusting mechanism 201 which can be swivelingly positioned in parallel with a two dimensional coordinate plane composed of X and Y axes, a scanning light irradiation angle adjusting mechanism 202 which can tilt by a required angle along a circular guide surface 202a about a virtual supporting point P at the upper required position on the axis, and a scanning light irradiating and receiving means 203 which can measure the displacement of the workpiece by irradiating and receiving the scanning light Le.
