An aligning device and method for feeding products into an automatic packaging machine, in particular products (13, 13', 13'') of any thickness or size whatsoever, that are fed by at least one sheet placer (14, 14', 14'') to a conveyor system (11) equipped with a plurality of pushers (12), positioned at a certain distance one behind the other with a step distance that can be set in advance, the products (13, 13', 13'') being stacked one on top of the other and transferred to the packaging area in a sheet of wrapping film or paper, wherein the device is positioned downstream of the at least one sheet placer (14, 14', 14'') and foresees at least one engaging element (16) that is brought into contact with the front end of the fed product as it travels forward, aligning said product with its respective pusher (12) and moving away from the product to permit its travel towards the packaging area, or towards a further sheet placer (14, 14', 14''). The engaging element is activated at variable speed in a manner so it does not hinder packaging operations.
