<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of restraining the occurrence of an abnormal image caused by a specified pattern even in the case of using small-diameter or spherical toner. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with an image carrier 1, image forming means 2, 3 and 4 for forming an image on the image carrier, a transfer means 6 for transferring the image formed on the image carrier to transfer material transported along the surface of the image carrier, and pattern forming means 2, 3 and 4 for forming a specified pattern on the image carrier by using developer for forming the image.
