PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a current accurately by operating the offset value of a current sensor accurately under a traveling state thereby lessening the error caused by the offset value. SOLUTION: In the method for detecting the current of an electric automobile, the current of the main battery 1 in the electric automobile is detected by means of a current sensor 4. In the method for detecting the current, offset value of the current sensor 4 is detected when a current is not fed from the main battery 1 to a vehicle drive motor 11, the offset value is detected a plurality of times by detecting a state where no current is fed to the vehicle drive motor 11, and then the offset values detected by a plurality of times are averaged to operate an average offset value of the current sensor 4.
