Method for generating CT images of a moving organ, e.g. the heart, has the following steps: recording of a multiplicity of images from different projections of the organ during at least one movement of the X-ray source around the organ; analysis of the image projection data to determine if they were recorded during a still or moving phase of the area of interest of the organ, and; reconstruction of an image of the organ only using image data obtained during a still phase of the area of interest of the organ. An Independent claim is made for a CT instrument with an X-ray source for examination of a moving organ, e.g. the heart.
