<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a partially stabilized zirconia powder having high toughness and more excellent in mechanical characteristics such as wear resistance or impact resistance, and a method of producing a sintered compact from the same. <P>SOLUTION: The method of producing the partially stabilized zirconia powder comprises blending powdery zirconia, yttria and alumina, each having an average particle diameter of ≤10μm so that the molar ratio of Y<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>to ZrO<SB>2</SB>becomes within a range of 2.0/98.0 to 4.0/96.0 and the amount of Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>is 0.01-5.0wt.%, pulverizing and dispersing the resulting blend by a wet method so that the average particle diameter becomes ≤0.5μm and the specific surface area becomes 6-25 m<SP>2</SP>/g, and drying. The method of producing the partially stabilized zirconia sintered compact comprises using the partially stabilized zirconia powder obtained by the production method mentioned above, then forming the powder into a predetermined shape by a dry method or a wet method, and firing the formed body in a temperature range of 1,150-1,450°C. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
