<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize the recovery of deceleration energy by power generation and the largest fuel improvement effect by setting optimum fuel cutting-off time, in an engine which performs deceleration fuel cutting-off for stopping fuel injection at the time of prescribed deceleration operation. <P>SOLUTION: During deceleration fuel cutting-off, deceleration is calculated from vehicle speed or engine speed.
