PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an output shaft supporting structure in an automatic transmission that can reduce the dimensions in the axial direction of the automatic transmission as much as possible and can restrain the whirling of the output shaft of the automatic transmission. SOLUTION: The output shaft supporting structure 20 in the automatic transmission comprises: an output shaft 13 in the automatic transmission 10 having a hollow section 13A that is open to one end side; an intermediate shaft 12 having an insertion section 12A inserted into the hollow section 13A at the other end side; an extension housing 21 mounted to the end face of a casing 14; first and second bearings 22 and 23 that are arranged between the outer periphery surface side of the output shaft 13 and the inner periphery surface of the extension housing 21; and a third bearing 24 that is arranged between the outer periphery surface of the insertion section 12A and the inner periphery surface of the hollow section 13A. A carrier PC3 in a planet gear mechanism G3 is retained between the outer periphery surface of the insertion section 12A at one end side of the intermediate shaft 12 instead of the third bearing 24 and the inner periphery surface of the hollow section 13A.
