PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the cooling efficiency of a closed deck type cylinder block. SOLUTION: Cylinder sleeves 18a-18c having large diameter parts 32a-32c and annular step parts 33a-33c are inserted in a bore hole 14 of a block body 16. Water jacket parts 20 are formed between cylinder body parts 30a-30c constituting the cylinder sleeves 18a-18c, and an annular cutout part 26 of the block body 16, between the cylinder body parts 30a, 30b, and between the cylinder body parts 30b, 30c. The respective outer peripheral wall parts, facing the water jacket parts 20, of the respective cylinder body parts 30a-30c are provided with annular projecting parts 34a-34c respectively.
