PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress occurrence of troubles due to deformation in the shape of a meniscus between adjacent ejection electrodes. SOLUTION: In a recovery mode, a positive pulse voltage is fed to ejection electrodes 20 in group X and a pulse voltage having a phase shift of one half period from the pulse voltage being fed to ejection electrodes 20 in group X is fed to ejection electrodes 20 in group Y. Consequently, pigment particles 2a contained in the ink repeat migration in the direction approaching the ejection electrodes 20 in group Y and migration in the direction approaching the ejection electrodes 20 in group X alternately between the ejection electrodes of both groups. The pulse voltage is fed continuously for an optimal applying time every time when a preset number of sheets for recovery operation are printed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
