A cleaning system for a rainwater down pipe has a curved duct section (1) with upper and lower connecting stubs (2, 3) to connect into the down pipe. The vertically falling water is slowed by a number of inner flanges (10) with drip lips (11) to lead the water into a swirl chamber (7) set over a number of cascades (5) which duct the water onto a sloping grid (6). The water drains through the grid while leaves and other debris slides down the grid, either into a collecting chamber, or out of the system via a sloping flange attached to the bottom of the grid. The cleaning system is accessible via removable windows/inspection ports. The cleaned water can be ducted to storage cisterns or rain water buts. The system is made from plastic mouldings.
