<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress a decrease in the processing speed of the whole of an image forming apparatus even when image data is compressed by a low cost apparatus constitution. <P>SOLUTION: The printing data given from a host computer is developed to image data by the CPU of a main board (S2). The CPU judges whether the length of the maximum raster among all of rasters constituting image data at every page is not more than 80% of the maximum printing width (S3) and, only when the length of the maximum raster exceeds 80% of the maximum printing width (S3 : NO), the image data is compressed to be stored in an RAM (S4 and S5). Thereafter, the compressed image data is thawn by ASIC and non-compressed image data is transferred to a laser unit as it is (S6-S8). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
