<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that in a method for stereoscopically viewing an image utilizing a conventional polarization glasses, an expensive half wave plate is needed and the resolution of a stereoscopic image is low. <P>SOLUTION: In a direct-vision type liquid crystal display shown in Fig. (a), a single color light beam successively switched and emitted from LEDs 14R, 14G and 14B is separated by a polarization beam splitter 13 according to polarization directions, an emitted light beam having the lateral polarization direction and an emitted light beam having the longitudinal polarization direction are guided to a first liquid crystal panel 11 and a second liquid crystal panel 12, respectively, to be reflected after optical modulation according to image information for a right eye and image information for a left eye by the liquid crystal panels and a component having the longitudinal polarization direction from the first liquid crystal panel 11 and a component having the lateral polarization direction from the second liquid crystal panel 12 are made incident in an optical expansion system 15. The polarization components of the light beam from the optical expansion system 15 are selected to the right eye and the left eye by a polarization glasses 16, image-formed on the retinas of a person and perceived as a color stereoscopic image. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
