PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-CCD imaging apparatus for providing an AF system adopting the TTL (Through The Lens) contrast peak detecting method without taking much focusing time. SOLUTION: The digital camera mainly comprises: a photographing optical system 1 comprising a zoom lens and a focusing lens; an optical path separate means 3 for separating a light into a plurality of optical fluxes; imaging elements A4, B6 each comprising a CCD or the like and converting the light into an electric signal; an image processing section / AF evaluation generating section 8 for generating an AF evaluation value from digital signals from the imaging elements A4, B6; a control section / arithmetic section 9 for performing the focus operation (hereinafter called AF) adopting the TTL contrast peak detecting method; a motor driver 12 for driving a focus motor and a zoom motor; the zoom motor 13; a zoom drive section 14 for driving a zoom mechanism section; the focus motors A17, B15; focus drive sections B16, A18; and imaging element drivers A26, B27 for driving the imaging elements.
