PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure the color of each colored layer in a line in any process of manufacturing a liquid crystal color filter, e.g. SOLUTION: During measuring the colors of a display member which has the colored layer of at least one or more color or its forming material attached to a transparent substrate where translucent pattern regions forming the colored layer of a RGB are arrayed at preset pitches lengthwise and crosswise, a light transmitted through the display member is received by a line spectroscopy for developing spectral characteristics along a lined view, xy chromaticity values constituting a one-dimensional chromaticity train is calculated in accordance with a spectral result obtained corresponding to the view of the spectroscopy, a two-dimensional histogram corresponding to xy chromaticity coordinates is created from the calculated xy chromaticity values, and the chromaticity values for the RGB for the display member are calculated from the maximum value for the histogram to be created.
