PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet separating and feeding device which has a reader arranged between a separation roller and a transfer roller and allows the downsizing for making the device more compact and the reduction of the production cost while reducing the peripheral speed difference between the separation roller and the transfer roller to prevent distortion and expansion of recording image formed in a document and obtaining a predetermined interval between the sequentially transferring documents even with the reduced peripheral speed. SOLUTION: The sheet separating and feeding device of this invention has a sun gear, an internally-toothed wheel gear, and a planet gear. The device is provided with a deceleration mechanism section which is arranged at one end of a rotary shaft of the separation roller and decelerates the rotation of a driving motor to transmit it to the separation motor, a disc member fixed to a gear formed section, a groove formed on the face of the disc member, a lever member which has a detent and is attached to the the groove side of the disc member to be slidable in the radial direction of the disc member, and a slider which is protrusively provided on the lever member and slides along the groove by rotation of the disc member.
