<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent transfer residual developer (toner) from sticking to a contact electrifying member and steadily and uniformly electrify an image carrier, even after the durability of an image forming apparatus of a contact electrification system and a cleanerless system expires. <P>SOLUTION: Control for applying a DC voltage applied to electrification auxiliary means such as a toner electrification quantity control means 6 and a residual toner uniformizing means 7 is exerted in such a manner that the DC voltage is changed by a control means according to information detected by a means 10 which detects an amount of use of the image forming apparatus, for example, the integrated value of the time during the application of a voltage to the electrification auxiliary means. Thus, even when the electrification auxiliary means deteriorates due to accumulation of an addition agent and energization after long use of the apparatus, a quantity of the electrification of the transfer residual developer can be adequately controlled, thereby preventing transfer residual developer from sticking to the contact electrifier or being failed to be recovered by a developing device. Further, even if the contact electrifier itself deteriorates, the surface of the image carrier can be uniformly and steadily electrified. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
