<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a moisture retention vegetable extract keeping the moisture retention effect over a long period, and obtain a moisture retention agent for external use, a cosmetic, a bathing agent and a detergent composition each containing the extract. <P>SOLUTION: The moisture retention vegetable extract is composed of an extract of a mixture of Cinnamomum cassia, Poria cocos, Paeonia lactiflora, Gprunus persica, Paeonia suffruticosa and Coix lacryma-jobi Linne var. ma-yuen. The moisture retention agent for external use, the cosmetic, the bathing agent and the detergent composition contain the extract. A medicine obtained by decocting a mixture of the above herb drugs at specific ratios has the same composition as a Chinese medicine called as Keishi-Bukuryo-Ganryouka-Yokuinin believed to be effective for irregular menstruation, hysterics, acne, spot and chapped skin of hands and feet by internal use.
