METHOD AND BIOCIDE FOR CLEANING AND SANITATION OF FOOD PRODUCTION AND PROCESSING FACILITIES

This invention relates to a method for cleaning and sanitizing surfaces in food processing facilities. The method includes the step of treating the surfaces with an anolyte and/or catholyte generated from an electrolytic cell wherein the cell uses an aqueous feed solution of a carbonate salt or a bicarbonate salt, such as sodium or potassium (or other) bicarbonate salt. The method is also characterised therein that the catholyte is used at an elevated temperature of 30 - 95 <°>C, and preferable at 45 - 55 <°>C. The invention further extends to a biocide for use in such a method.
