摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device in which the wavelength characteristics of a Mach-Zehnder waveguide element can be appropriately controlled. <P>SOLUTION: The optical device 10 is equipped with: a Mach-Zehnder waveguide element 20 having two branched optical waveguides 204, 205 and heaters 2112, 213 to control the temperature of the optical waveguides 204, 205, respectively; and a controlling section 301 which controls the voltages applied to the heaters 2112, 213 so as to control the wavelength characteristics of the output signal light. The correlation between the applied voltage and the wavelength characteristics is nonlinear with at least one inflection point. The controlling section 301 controls the applied voltage on the basis of the above nonlinear relation. The controlling section 301 is included in a one-chip microcomputer 30, which is substantially located as integrated with the Mach-Zehnder type waveguide element 20. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p>
