PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem in which when an optical fiber is joined with a metallic fixing member with a glass sealant, airtight sealing becomes insufficient and further a stress is applied to the optical fiber to cause deterioration in optical characteristics. SOLUTION: The package for optical semiconductor element storage comprises a container main body 1 which has a recessed part for storing an optical semiconductor element on its top surface and is provided with a through hole 1a reaching the recessed part from the external surface at its side part, the cylindrical metallic fixation member 4 which is inserted and fixed in the through hole 1a or fixed to the external surface of the the container main body 1 at the circumference of the through hole 1a, the optical fiber 5a which is inserted into the metallic fixation member 4 to have one end surface opposite the optical semiconductor element and also has its outer circumferential surface fixed to the internal wall of the metallic fixation member 4 with the glass sealant 6, and a lid body 7 which is fitted to the top surface of the container main body 1 and airtightly houses the optical semiconductor element in the recessed part, the glass sealant 6 having a 5 to 30 % pore rate.
