PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seal material for a shutter device capable of finely maitaining sealing performance, reducing slide resistance when a shutter is opened and shut, and controlling the shakiness of the shutter when the shutter receives a strong external force. SOLUTION: The shutter device includes a pair of supporting frames opposed to each other and the shutter supported between both supporting frames so as to enable the motion of the shutter to reciprocate. The seal material 20 is laid between the supporting frames and the shutter. The seal material 20 is formed of a velour material having a basic material 21 and a pile thread 22 napped on the basic material 21. Curling work is applied to the pile thread 22, and there are a plurality of curled parts 22a in the thread. The seal material 20 exhibits a sealing function, a resistance reducing function for reducing the slide resistance in the case of opening and shutting the shutter and a cushion function for controlling the shakiness of the shutter by bringing the pile thread 22 into contact with the surface of the shutter.
