PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shift lock device for a vehicle, which locks a connecting means to secure the security of a vehicle. SOLUTION: An inner cable 17 connected to a gear box is coupled to a shift lever 11 via a metal fixture 15 having a locking groove 41 engaging with a plunger 39. The connection between the inner cable 17 and the metal fixture 15 is covered with a case 32, which stores a solenoid 36, a circuit 37, and a microcomputer 38. The microcomputer 38 decodes an unlocking code that is sent from an engine controller when the ID code of an electronic key matches that of the engine controller, and a locking code sent from an engine controller when the engine is stopped. Upon decoding the codes, the microcomputer 38 energizes or deenergizes the solenoid 36 by supplying or cutting off current via the circuit 37, thus making the metal fixture 15 locked or unlocked.
