Novel antibiotic compositions are described. beta-lactam antibiotics are used in combination with a non-beta-lactam inhibitor of NAALADase, the inhibitor in an amount effective to inhibit beta-lactamase activity. The antibiotic compositions can be administered to treat infections caused by beta-lactamase-producing bacterial strains.
