BYPASS CONTROLLED REGENERATION OF NOX ADSORBERS

A method and apparatus for regenerating a lean NOx adsorber is disclosed whe re the NOx adsorber isused to treat exhaust gases created during the combustion of gaseous fuels in general. A bypass line isused to maintain a target regeneration flow of exhaust gas through the NOx adsorber during regeneratio n regardless of operating demands on the engine. A closed and open loop contro l is provided. The closedloop control uses sensors determining properties of t he exhaust gas during regeneration and the controllerusing those properties to provide an efficient regeneration cycle. A regeneration map is also provided thatuses creation of in-cylinder regeneration conditions for the exhaust gas in combination of inline regeneration conditions for the exhaust gas.
